Yakitori Chicken Skewers recipe is an amazing way to cook a great chicken dish that can be served as a starter or as part of the main course. Chicken Yakitori is a famous Japanese chicken Yakitori dish. Yakitori chicken recipe is a Japanese type of skewered chicken recipe.

Ingredients for chicken Yakitori

  • 600 g boned and skinned chicken meat

  • 4 1/2 tablespoon mirin (sweet rice wine)

  • 3 cm piece of fresh ginger

  • 6 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 3 1/2 tablespoons sake

  • 10 scallions

  • 1 1/2 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 1/4 chopped clove garlic

  • 200 g halved mushrooms

  • 1/2 sliced cucumber for garnishing

  • dash of salt

How to make Yakitori Chicken Skewers

  • cut chicken meat into bite-sized

  • peel and chop the ginger

  • trim and cut scallions into lengths of 2 1/2 cm

  • add garlic, ginger, rice wine, sake, soy sauce and sugar into a mixing bowl

  • stir in chicken pieces

  • mix evenly and leave to marinade for two-and-a-half hours

  • soak bamboo skewers in water for one hour

  • thread chicken onto bamboo skewers alternating with scallions and mushrooms

  • brush the chicken pieces with the marinade

  • arrange the skewers under a preheated grill

  • cook for ten minutes or until chicken is cooked as per the Yakitori chicken recipe

  • basting frequently and turn the skewers a few times to allow all parts of the chicken meat is cooked
