Ingredients for Bengali curry fish

  • 800 g white fish cutlets

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

  • 1/2 bigl sliced aubergine (eggplant)

  • 3 1/2 cups water

  • 6 green de-seeded and slit lengthwise chilies

  • 1/3 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds

  • 1/3 teaspoon black mustard seeds

  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds

  • 1/2 teaspoon nigella seeds (kalonji)

How to make Bengali Fish Curry

  • most fish recipes will use fish fillets to substitute fish cutlets

  • dry the fish with a cloth

  • sprinkle the fish cutlets with salt and turmeric

  • marinate for ten minutes

  • heat oil in cooking pan

  • saute the fish until the color of the fish becomes golden

  • make sure both sides of the fish cutlets are properly cooked

  • set fish aside

  • saute the masala spices in the same cooking pan until they start to crackle

  • add aubergine and potato

  • saute until the vegetables are well coated with the masala

  • add water and simmer until the aubergine and potato are tender
