Insam Cha Recipe

Korean Ginseng Tea or Insam Cha is a very popular Korean tea. Why is ginseng tea so famous in Korea? Ginseng has become the most famous product from Korea and this medicinal root is known for its healing abilities for over five thousand years. Korean ginseng tea is now regarded as a healthy drink all over the world. If you are unable to buy whole ginseng pieces, a good substitute would be packets of young or dried rootlets and shavings.

Ingredients for ginseng tea recipe

  • 12 whole pieces of dried ginseng root

  • 2 1/8 liters of water

  • 2 3/4 tablespoons sugar

  • 3/4 tablespoon pine nuts

  • 5 dried red dates

How to make Ginseng Tea

  • put the dried red dates, dried ginseng and water into a pot

  • bring to a boil

  • cover the pot and reduce the temperature

  • allow the ginseng mixture to simmer gently for four hours

  • put in the sugar

  • stir constantly until sugar dissolves

  • strain and pour into a porcelain teapot

  • add in the pine nuts

  • serve the ginseng tea in a porcelain teacups with a few pine nuts floating on top of the ginseng tea
