Honey Rice Cakes recipe or Hwajeon recipe is one of the many famous Korean dessert recipes. Ingredients for hwajeon recipe

  • 225 g rice flour

  • 70 ml honey

  • 55 ml vegetable oil

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 245 ml warm water

  • 12 rinsed and dried flower blossoms or flower petals for garnishing

  • toasted sesame seeds for garnishing

How to make Korean Honey Rice Cakes

  • add rice flour, salt and warm water in mixing bowl

  • mix evenly to obtain a smooth, pliable dough that is non-sticky

  • dish out 1 tablespoon of dough and roll the dough on a lightly floured flat surface

  • make a circle with a diameter of 6 cm and a thickness of 1 cm

  • add oil in a frying pan using high temperature

  • swirl the frying pan to cover the surface

  • put a few pieces of the dough in the frying pan

  • lower the temperature and fry the rice cakes for two minutes or until the bottom part becomes golden brown as per the hwajeon recipe

  • turn the rice cakes over and cook the other side as well

  • remove and dry using absorbent paper

  • transfer the Korean rice cakes to a serving plate

  • garnish each piece of rice cakes with one flower blossom
